Chapter 6 – Meditation and health

Chapter 6 outlines the impact of meditation on the health and well-being of the practitioner. What are the health benefits of meditation? In recent years, a large body of research has focused on the physical and psychological impact of meditation. However, gleaning meaningful information from these studies is fraught with difficulties and prone to misinterpretation. Furthermore, the growing interest of the Western media in meditation and practices such as tai chi, chi gung, and yoga has also flooded our culture with huge volumes of information (or misinformation) about these practices, some positive and some negative. It is therefore hard to obtain an accurate picture of the impact of meditation on the practitioner’s state of health and well-being. Chapter 6 provides an overview of the research published in peer-reviewed medical journals on the impact of meditation on the health of the practitioner, leaving the reader with an accurate picture of what meditation involves, as well as its long-term benefits
