Chapter
1 – Meditation: what is it and why do we need it?
Chapter 1 is an introduction to different types of meditation,
such as meditation, Tai Chi, Chi Gung, and yoga (Eastern philosophy)
and meditation, contemplative prayer, and lectio divina (Western
philosophy). Recently, in the West, we have seen a growing
interest in practices, such as meditation, Tai Chi, Chi Gung,
and yoga. These disciplines appear to go someway towards offering
an antidote to the stress of modern life. Chapter 1 therefore
partially demystifies some of the popular types of meditation,
giving readers an overview of their underlying philosophy
and how they may fit into our modern healthcare system.
